1929 Dizzy Dean New Braunfels Semi-Professional Original Photograph from The Gene Kirby Collection. Dizzy Dean was known for his zany antics and boastful comments. But he was quick to note "If ya done it, it aint braggin" in his southern twang. Before he was ready for the Major Leagues, Dean played semi-pro baseball in New Braunfels. This photograph was captured when Dean was a mere teenager. The offered image shows Dean standing with his teammates for the New Braunfels squad. Dean is second from the right on the top row and has his entire career ahead of him. The photo (9.5x7.25" showing/12.5x10.5 entirety) remains clear and is housed in a "Seidel" frame. Since the photo is glued to its backing we are not able to get a PSA/DNA rendering. "Dean second from right in back row. Pitched for the New Braunfels, Tex semi-pro team in 1929" is written on the reverse in red ink. Some creasing appears on the cardboard backing and there is a tear to the frame on front. Letter of provenance from Gene Kirby's daughter.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
