Description

1928 New York Yankees Panoramic Photograph. While it's the 1927 squad that gets all the accolades, let's not forget that the 1928 edition matched it practically step for step, again concluding a 100+ win regular season with a four-game World Series sweep. And the addition of Leo Durocher and Stanley Coveleski to the Murderer's Row pantheon actually ups the Hall of Fame ante from the previous season, as we are offered crystal-clear portraits of Leo and Stan along with Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Bill Dickey, Waite Hoyt, Earle Combs, Herb Pennock and diminutive manager Miller Huggins. Even famed hunchback batboy Eddie Bennett is here, sitting indian-style at Cedric Durst's feet. An interesting bit of photographer's trickery expands the photo past its original dimensions, as the sharp-eyed observer will note that a white vertical stripe four inches from the left marks the spot where two negatives were joined to complete the vastness of the scene, measuring thirty-one inches in width at a height of eight inches. Condition is stunningly superb, almost unheard of for ancient panoramas, with not a distracting flaw to be noted. A marvelous relic spawned by the darkroom of a St. Petersburg, Florida photographic studio not far from the Yanks' spring training grounds.
