    Description

1927 New York Yankees Panoramic Team Photograph. The best Yankees team photo on Earth? A strong argument could be made. Certainly this pinstriped edition's status as the greatest baseball team ever assembled has reached the point of overwhelming consensus, a dominance predicated largely upon the outrageous slugging production of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, who stand shoulder to brawny shoulder fifth and sixth from the left in the back row. Fellow Hall of Famers Jacob Ruppert and Miller Huggins appear at center, and even Ruth's hunchbacked good luck charm Eddie Bennett makes the scene, seated third from left. Thirty-six Yankees in all are captured here, preparing at their St. Petersburg, Florida spring training grounds for the finest season ever.

Only upon the closest of inspection do a few very minor imperfections make their presence known, a half-inch tear in the sky well above the players' heads and some scattered light toning, again far from the image's central focus. A faint wrinkle runs from the lower edge to catcher Bennie Bengough's feet. Image size is 8.5x23", with matting and framing finalizing the dimensions at 17x31".

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
