    Description

1927 Lou Gehrig Large Cabinet Photograph from The Lou Gehrig Collection.

UPDATE: This lot includes a letter of provenance from the consignor.

The master in his prime. This marvelous image of Gehrig in full Yankees regalia was shot during an excursion to Newburgh, New York, about fifty miles up the Hudson River from Yankee Stadium, where the superstar first baseman had tripled against the Detroit Tigers earlier in the day. The (soon-to-be) American League MVP and World Champion poses with a star-struck youngster in the 8x10" image which is presented in a cabinet mount upon which handwritten text (unknown hand) reports, "Recreation Park, Newburgh, NY, The Hitch Memorial, Sept. 22, 1927." Mount is chipped at edges, but photo itself is unaffected. Full dimensions approximately 13x11". Please note that PSA/DNA will not designate "Type" numbers for mounted photographs, but Henry Yee has confirmed that this is a period original. Letter of provenance from consignor.
