    Description

1927-32 American League Baseball Stars Photographic Snapshots Lot of 41. Fascinating collection of Golden Age baseball snapshots was shot and compiled by a Hungarian immigrant to America named John LaDow, who entered Ellis Island aboard the R.M.S. Carpathia in 1910, two years before that ship would gain fame as a Titanic disaster rescue boat. That the National Pastime of his new country became a passion of LaDow is evident here, in this splendid collection of images snapped from the railing of Cleveland's League Park. Found within are one-of-a-kind images of Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, the Yankee dugout with Gehrig inside, Dickey, Bucky Harris, Averill, Eddie Collins, Goslin, Heilmann, Grove, Lazzeri, Speaker and many more. Sepia-toned images range from 2.5x3.5" to 2.5x4.5" in size, with only a few exhibiting damage, though these flaws remain free of the main focus of the shots. The amateur images are nonetheless quite ably rendered, and provide a view of this special era of the game from a spectator's point of view. Also here are pages of correspondence from a descendant of LaDow with the Baseball Hall of Fame, which has added some other shots from this early fan's collection to its archives.
