1921 New York Giants & New York Yankees World Series Panoramic Composite Print. This visual masterpiece commemorates the first Subway Series, the first Yankees World Series, and Babe Ruth's first World Series as a Yankee.

"World Series 1921. Polo Grounds, New York" depicts an awe inspiring visual of the stadium grandstand, with the apartment buildings visible beyond, taken from centerfield. Twenty vignettes of "the Giants" and "The Yankees," include Ruth and Frisch at the top, and McGraw, Bancroft, Kelly, Youngs, Huggins, Hoyt, Mays, Pipp, and eight other along the bottom border.

Upper left depicts the "Mathewson Testimonial Baseball," signed by Matty, Ruth, and president Harding, which was purchased by haberdasher Truly Warner for $750. (Warner would later pay $100 for Ruth 60th home run baseball in 1927). Upper right ad for "Truly Warner" says "I'm on the Fence, I'm for New York." Produced by Langmann & McColgan of New York City.

There was some minimal and mild professional restoration to Ruth's vignette but the skill of the restoration expert has rendered the work virtually undetectable. Also, there is a very light scratch on the white background next to the ball in the upper left corner which is only visible upon close inspection. Other than the two aforementioned minor inconsistencies, the panoramic is virtually flawless and presents beautifully and without distraction.

The panoramic (which is mounted on its vintage composite board) measures 7.25x36" and comes in its original frame 9x37.75 (with removable foam board added for additional support). The only other exemplar (VG with several tears and creases) we know of sold for $4,600 in 2013. An extremely rare and elegant panoramic.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
