1921 Babe Ruth Selecting Bat Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. Starting out as a Boston Red Sox pitcher, Babe Ruth quickly morphed into the greatest hitter the game had ever seen. Starting in the Dead Ball era in which pitching dominated, Ruth single handedly changed the way the game of baseball was played, transforming it into the power game it remains to this day. As early as 1918 he led the league in home runs (with just eleven), a feat he repeated a dozen times to the tune of 714 career home runs. In this original Underwood & Underwood news service photograph, Ruth is shown in his second season as a Yankee ("September 15, 1921") selecting his bat from a myriad of lumber choices laying in front of the dugout. The photo measures 5.5x7.5" with trimmed borders and is otherwise in Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
