Description

1920's Lou Gehrig Signed Photograph with Letter of Provenance from Mark Koenig. In the sports collectibles marketplace, Lou Gehrig is a blue chip stock. Even almost eighty years since his passing, he remains a benchmark as both player and a man; his talent unapproachable, his appeal timeless. Everything about Gehrig is mythical as if was created by Marvel -- Columbia, the Yankees, New York City, MVP, the Triple Crown, the streak, the nickname.

On offer here is a precious signed photograph of the magnificent Iron Horse during the 1920's when he was young, at the height of his physical powers and forging his iconic brand. Crisp image pictures a handsome Gehrig seated with teammates Benny Bengough and Mark Koenig in a shoe store.

The black fountain pen autograph is Mint. The 8x10" black and white image is double-matted and framed to 10.75x12.75". This lot is accompanied by an unbelievable 1978 handwritten and signed letter of provenance from Koenig describing the photograph and gifting it to a friend. "I am enclosing a photo of Gehrig , Bengough and myself which I thought you might like to have." Full LOA from SGC.
