1920's-30's Lou Gehrig Photograph Archive (31). Marvelous collection of vintage first-generation images derive from Christina Gehrig's personal collection and begins chronologically with a marvelous snapshot photo (2x2.75") of mom and son at about age fifteen posing with the family dog. It is one of nineteen images of Lou in civilian clothing, which include Rawhide promotional photos, a signed image of Gehrig on the ship's deck signed by the photographer for the 1931 Tour of Japan, a few fishing shots and a great snapshot of Gehrig flexing his massive bicep. The in-uniform images are even more enthralling, beginning with a 5-21-23 news photo, complete with paper caption, of Gehrig in Columbia uniform (Good, due to corner damage). There's a magnificent rookie Yankee portrait, a huge (11x14") shot of Gehrig sliding headfirst into third, and one of the very last photos of Gehrig in pinstripes, shot October 5, 1939 as he is visited in the Yankee dugout by Babe Ruth. Also here are about ten photos of Christina Gehrig and her family without Lou, not included in the count. Image size varies from snapshot to 11x14", and range in condition from Good to NRMT, with most closer to the middle of that range.

The Lou Gehrig Collection, Part II.

The noble Iron Horse rides once again, and for the final time within the confines of The Lou Gehrig Collection presented by Heritage Auctions. The incredible offering of personally owned material from the Yankees legend first appeared within our August 2011 "Platinum Night" event. We made sure to hold a few great pieces back for our November auction, and this is one of them. This material was left to the consignor's family by Lou's mother Christina Gehrig upon her passing in the 1950's, and makes its hobby debut here.
