1919 Lou Gehrig at Age Sixteen Original Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1 from The Lou Gehrig Collection.

UPDATE: This lot includes a letter of provenance from the consignor.

In an abundance of caution, PSA/DNA will only confirm identity of a photographic subject when absolutely certain, so while we at Heritage remain fully confident that an earlier image of Gehrig exists within this collection (cabinet photograph of baby), Henry Yee characterizes this charming snapshot as the earliest verified photograph of the legendary slugger. He lovingly cradles a handsome hound in his arms, while an unknown hand has written, "Lou Gehrig, June 25, 1919" on verso, dating the shot to less than a week after his sixteenth birthday. A diagonal tear runs between the two subjects of the 2x3" photo, the halves rejoined by cello tape on back. Letter of provenance from consignor.
