1918 Shoeless Joe Jackson's Cleats Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. One of the more unique items in this auction, this 7x10" photograph pictures the cleated feet of Joe Jackson. In his pre-professional playing days, Jackson had blisters from his cleats and took an at bat without his shoes. The nickname "Shoeless Joe" stuck with him from that time forward. While Jackson is best known for his alleged involvement in the 1919 Black Sox scandal, he also ranks as one of the greatest hitters in the history of the game, even in a career cut short by his banishment. Photo reverse is marked "N.E.A." and dated "Aug 12, 1918." Pencil notes reference "Joe Jackson of Chicago" and other notes. Condition is Fair due to a pinhole and a pencil mark on the front. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
