1917 Chicago White Sox Team News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. With as much hoopla as the 1919 Chicago "Black Sox" get for throwing the World Series, it is easy to forget the fact that they really were one of the great teams, and potential dynasties, of the 1910's. In 1917, the team scored a still-record 100 wins and blew away the competition en route to a World Series victory over the New York Giants. Although they had a poor showing in 1918, the next year they rebounded to win the pennant and go to the World Series as heavy favorites against the Reds. Had eight of the players not thrown the games, the Sox would have won their second championship in three years and probably could have continued to dominate for a few more years. Instead, they lost the core of their team, including Joe Jackson and Eddie Cicotte.

The offered photo shows the team in happier days back in 1917 after winning the championship. The International Film Service news photo measures just under 6x9." Hall of Famers include Eddie Collins and Ray Schalk. Most of the players reappeared in 1919 as members of the scandal, including Joe Jackson, Buck Weaver, Swede Risberg, Chick Gandil, Cicotte, Happy Felsch and Lefty Williams. Full PSA/DNA LOA, Type 1.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
