1916 Boston Red Sox Team Cabinet Photograph with Babe Ruth. Extraordinarily scarce and desirable advertising piece is one of just a handful known dating to the second full season of Babe Ruth's Major League career, and specifically to a World Series best remembered for his fourteen-inning complete game masterpiece against the Brooklyn Robins in the second contest. In fact, this exact image occupies the back cover of the Boston version of the 1916 World Series program.

Here the original 5x7" black and white photograph is affixed to an 8x10" cardboard mount with printed text reporting "Red Sox, World Series 1916" and a full listing of the pictured roster. Ruth sits cross-legged at center of bottom row against a backdrop of a four-year old Fenway Park grandstand. Fellow Hall of Famers Harry Hooper and Herb Pennock also appear. The swastika border design framing the image was still decades from taking on the dreadful connotation that would be assigned by Nazi Germany.

Condition is spectacular, with mild age toning the only visible symptom of a century of aging. A bit of scotch tape peeks out from underneath the bottom right corner, applied decades after production to keep the photo flat against the mount. Our most recent offering of a Red Sox team photo with Ruth commanded $44,460 in August 2016.
