    Description

1913-15 Christy Mathewson Photograph by Charles Conlon, PSA/DNA Type 1. One of the finest photographic images we've ever encountered from this most beloved Dead Ball Era figure, who would claim his final National League flag during the first of three possible years this image was captured (based on uniform design). The distinctive architecture of the old Polo Grounds is clearly evident in the background. The masterful portrait is that of legendary baseball photographer Charles Conlon whose work serves as an essential visual record of the Dead Ball Era game. The 6.5x8.5" period print exhibits moderate handling wear but nothing that will distract the eye. Reverse is a collage of "Underwood & Underwood" stamping and editorial scribbles, suggesting this was an image utilized regularly for news articles about the posthumous inaugural class Hall of Famer. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
