1912 Boston Red Sox Panoramic Photograph by Carl Horner. What Matthew Brady was to photography of the Civil War era, Carl Horner was to Dead Ball Era baseball. His work serves not only as the most comprehensive visual record of the Major Leagues' practitioners during the earliest years of the twentieth century, but also as a master class in early portrait photography itself, every image adeptly lit and registered to create a body of work that falls quite comfortably under the heading of fine art.

Of course, the vast majority of Horner creations were studio sittings, those images used to populate many of the trading card hobby's top tobacco issues. But here, Horner steps out of his comfort zone and into the tricky world of the panoramic. The result is predictably perfect, the twenty-two subjects captured with razor-sharp clarity, a World Championship squad including such iconic figures as Harry Hooper, Tris Speaker, Duffy Lewis, Eddie Cicotte and manager Jake Stahl. Just as thrilling is the expansive view afforded of the infant Fenway Park in its first season of existence.

Some toning and a creasing affects the left side of the image, but to little ill effect, and the photo otherwise presents flawlessly. Viewable area measures 43x9", with museum-quality matting and framing concluding the dimensions at 52.5x18".
