    Description

1911 Walter Johnson & Gabby Street Original Photograph by Van Oeyen, PSA/DNA Type 1.
Louis Van Oeyen rose from staff photographer of The Cleveland Press in the opening years of the twentieth century to prominence as the official photographer of the American League, documenting almost all of the greats of the first fifty years of the 1900's in his artful and distinctive style. Any Van Oeyen work carries a significant premium among baseball photography collectors, particularly those bearing his personal stamp on verso, as this treasure does. Here he finds the celebrated Senators battery of Johnson and Street, and a paper caption on verso states the Tigers had recently offered huge money to tempt the pair to Detroit. Sepia image measures approximately 9x7" with chipping at lower right and tearing at middle left, but otherwise little more than light wrinkling to distract the eye. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
