1910's "Shoeless Joe" Jackson Photograph by Charles Conlon, PSA/DNA Type 1. It's the most famous photograph ever taken of the most famous Black Sox conspirator of them all, a status due in large part to the appearance of the image on the coveted 1940 Play Ball trading card that honored Jackson two decades after his banishment. Nearly as noteworthy to the Dead Ball Era game is the man behind the lens, Charles M. Conlon, one of the leading figures of early baseball photography. Perhaps only his image of Ty Cobb sliding into third base is more recognizable than this one, and we've never encountered an original, first-generation example like the rare treasure offered here. A small chip at the upper right corner is the only notable distraction, with typical edge and corner wear remaining within the border area, as the chip nearly does. Reverse is stamped "Charles M. Conlon, Evening Telegram, New York" and hand notated in pencil, "Joe Jackson (White Sox)." Dimensions 8x10". Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
