Description

1910's Eddie Plank Original Photograph by Louis Van Oeyen, PSA/DNA Type 1. "Gettysburg Eddie" is best recalled for his fourteen seasons of service to the first great Philadelphia Athletics dynasty. Just eight and a half years after pitching his last game, Plank fell victim to a fatal stroke at age fifty. Here we find him captured by early baseball photography pioneer Van Oeyen during pre-game warm-ups. The photographer's stamp and handwritten notations appear on verso. Circular discoloration at three corners is the result of some sort of paste-up, suggesting the image was used in a period publication. Otherwise, the silver gelatin image presents as NRMT. Dimensions 10.5x6.5". Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.
