    Description

1908 New York Highlanders (Yankees) Photographs Lot of 3. Photography from the first decade of the team that would come to be known as the Yankees is extraordinarily scarce, and this trio represents the finest we've encountered of that woefully insufficient supply. Two are identified as capturing Opening Day at Manhattan's Hilltop Park, where the team played between their Big Apple arrival in 1903 and their move uptown to the Polo Grounds in 1913. These are the best views we've ever had of that long-since demolished American League park.

A pregame image shows the Highlanders warming up in their unique "NY" jerseys, while a second is an action shot at the plate. They are attributed to the 1908 home opener on back and front respectively. The third image is a portrait shot of manager Kid Elberfeld, who took over the job from Clark Griffith midway through the 1908 season. Sizes range from 5x3" to 5x7". Each shows minor handling wear, with the largest image chipped at the left corners and torn at upper right, but all are well within the range of acceptable condition. Each is stamped, "From the Collection of M. Cohn" on verso."
