Description

1904 Joe McGinnity Photograph. This amazing one-of-a-kind snapshot was clipped from the scrapbook of former Major Leaguer Matty McIntyre, whose career spanned ten seasons with the Athletics (1901), the Tigers (1904-1910) and the White Sox (1911-1912). Pictured are two members of the 1904 New York Giants battery, catcher John Warner and Hall of Fame pitcher "Iron Joe" McGinnity, who would top even his legendary teammate Christy Mathewson by posting a thirty-five and eight record this year en route to the National League pennant. Those well-versed in the hobby understand the genuine scarcity of turn-of-the-century Major League Baseball photography, and finding a unique in-uniform image of this tough Hall of Famer (deceased 1929) is a real treat. The fine sepia-toned image measures 3x4", with the black paper backing bringing the total dimensions to 4x5". McIntyre's white ink writing at bottom reads, "Warner and McGinnity, New York (National)." Certainly one of the most appealing of the very few McGinnity period photographs we've ever seen. Condition is a remarkable NRMT.
