    Description

1900's-20's Roger Bresnahan Photographs, Tintype & Prayer Book Lot of 31. Beginning with a 2.5x3.5" tintype from circa 1900, this lot of thirty Bresnahan photographs all showcases Bresnahan and his family and baseball associates in street clothes. The tintype includes a friend identified as Ed McGuiness and was taken in a stadium. A pair of oval portraits are mounted on thin cardboard and marked "Harris" in Little Rock, Arkansas. A 9.5x14" imperial cabinet style group shot is marked as "Atlantic City 1915" on the verso. Two identical portraits (one placed in a folder) show Bresnahan smoking a cigar, and a final snapshot shows a much older Bresnahan walking down the street.

A majority of the photos are "International Newsreel" news photos from 1927 spring training showing Bresnahan and family and friends sightseeing in Florida. Several of these feature Rogers Hornsby. Sixteen measure approximately 6x8" while the other seven are 8x10" in size. Grading is primarily in the Good to Excellent range.

In addition to the photographs, also included is a prayer missive from his estate. A devout Catholic, Roger Bresnahan had this very mass prayer book in tow plenty of times during his trips to church. "Roger Bresnahan Toledo, Ohio" is neatly scribed on an inside page. The writing in the book is that of Bresnahan's wife. While the black cover has virtually chipped away, the paper stock is still intact. Regular age wear visible. Letter of provenance from the Bresnahan family.
