    Description

1898 Maine Integrated Baseball Team Mounted Photograph. While all 19th Century baseball-related original photographs are in high demand right now, there are several factors that set this one apart. Featuring a team from Maine, the players are all identified on the front, and numerous pieces of original equipment are pictured including a catcher's mask, bats, and gloves. Second, the team was integrated with one African-American on the team, a definite rarity in those days. Finally, a goat. Mascots were half the fun back on the 1800's teams, and certainly this Maine squad went out of their way to deck this particular goat mascot out in full American flag uniform.

The photo itself measures 8x10" and is mounted to 10x12" cardboard. Some staining and warping on the mount but a very nice central image with just one small spot of paper loss.
