1895-1900 Roger Bresnahan Team Photographs Lot of 2. In the pre-WWII era, defining what is a rookie card can be difficult. Thus, many collectors choose to simply find the earliest known collectible produced of a player. The offered lot may indeed be the earliest available piece related to HOFer Roger Bresnahan. After finishing high school, Bresnahan signed as a pitcher and catcher for Lima of the Ohio State League, playing there in 1895 and 1896. This team photo measures 9.5x11" and is mounted to 11x13." Staining, paper loss, and other flaws are evident, but the piece remains a unique prize for the HOF or Bresnahan collector.

Also in this lot is a second team photo measuring 8x10" (mounted). Taken in front of the Dawson Salts & Water Co. in Dawson Springs, KY, Bresnahan and George Stovall both appear in this picture, dating it to 1916. At this time, the Toledo Iron Men (not the Mud Hens during this time) went to Dawson Springs for their spring training. Bresnahan was the owner and president of the Toledo team from 1916 through 1923, coaching and playing at will. Bresnahan, front and center, is actually wearing a Chicago Cubs team sweater as he had been a player-manager for the Cubs the previous year, but gave up the Major Leagues to return home. One large pinhole at top center is about the only major flaw on this photograph. Letter of provenance from the Bresnahan family.
