    Description

1870 Chicago White Stockings Team Photograph. We're listing this as a second-generation photograph, as we're quite sure it wasn't printed in 1870, though the silver gelatin printing does suggest many decades of age. It's a wonderful image regardless, and the first of its type we've seen. This team joined the first Major League, the National Association, in 1871, and were close contenders all summer, but their ballpark, uniforms and gear all went up in flames during the Great Chicago Fire on October 8, 1871. Visible images area is 7.5x11.5". Photo has not been examined outside of the mat (11.5x15.5") but presents as NRMT within. From the Roger Marth Collection.
