(Circa.) 1887 New York Giants Team Cabinet Photograph. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: It has been pointed out that the player in the middle row, seen just to the left of Mutrie is Dude Esterbrook which there is a resemblance. If that is him, the photo is of the 1885 or 1886 team. Baseball-Reference lists a 13 player roster for the 1885 team and there are 13 players imaged pointing to the 1885 team.

The lineal forefather to the modern San Francisco Giants are found on the precipice of their first World Championship season, a back-to-back pair in fact, in this gorgeous sepia-toned image of a Victorian-era juggernaut with mustaches to put the 1970's Oakland A's to shame. The talent pool was as deep as the Mariana Trench in those days, with Buck Ewing, Roger Connor, Jim O'Rourke, Tim Keefe and Mickey Welch counted among the Hall of Fame members. The 4x6" image is stamped in somewhat illegible text at lower left, and is affixed to a mount that extends the dimensions by a half inch of width and height. Minimal edge and corner wear is of no distraction, and the photo itself is free of any noteworthy flaws. One of the finest 19th century team photos we've offered.
