Rube Waddell Original Mixed Media Oil Painting. A fascinating depiction of one of the most eccentric personalities the game has seen. The 48"x 24" mixed media work depicts a studio image of Waddell surrounded by and alligator(which he enjoyed wrestling), a bottle of wine (he was an alcoholic) and a man with a children's toy and teddy bear(He was easily distracted by toys while pitching). The wine is being poured to create a river around Rube with sandbags in the background. Rube died at the age of 37, after contracting tuberculosis after helping flood victims fill sandbags. Large pieces of paint are affixed to the canvass creating a height of almost 3" in areas. Artist Grant Smith has signed the front and back.
