    Description

Mid-1880's Reed's Game of Base Ball. This dexterity game is the only known example extant, making its exemplary condition almost feel like overkill. The bats are used to strike the wooden disc (ball), and where it comes to rest determines the course of play. The artful Victorian-era graphics remain bold and bright on the 5.5x13.5" playing surface. Two bats and a portion of a third are here. Note that six balls are required for a walk, a period oddity that reflects an 1884 alteration to the National League rule book. The directions for the game are affixed to verso of game board and remain in fine and fully legible condition.
