Description

Late 1940's Johnny Mize Game Worn First Baseman's Glove. Rare Rawlings First Baseman Trapper Mitt derives from the personal collection of former Yankees bat boy Bert Padell, and was originally auctioned as part of the Padell Collection in October 2005. Though the mitt has no markings of attribution to Mize, the original 2005 auction catalog is included, as is a letter from noted glove expert Joe Phillips who attests that the glove is the style favored by essentially all Major League first sackers during the era. Wear is very heavy, with a few broken laces, suggesting Mize used this glove until it could serve him no further. Rare Hall of Fame leather from one of the all-time Yankees greats. LOA from Joe Phillips.
