Early 1930's Tour of Japan Kimono from The Lou Gehrig Collection.

UPDATE: This lot includes a letter of provenance from the consignor.

This garment lacks the written text of the other kimono in The Lou Gehrig Collection that allowed us to pinpoint its derivation, but we can be certain that one of the two Tours of Japan was the source. It's a gorgeous creation in black silk and floral embroidery, and even the original belt remains. Certainly any relic linking Lou Gehrig to what was arguably his most important service to our national pastime carries enormous historical and collecting appeal.

The condition remains spectacular despite the delicate construction of the Japanese robe, and a full-sized mannequin will allow the piece to serve as a commanding showpiece in your personal trophy room. Letter of provenance from consignor.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
