Description

Early 1930's Tony Lazzeri Game Worn Fielder's Glove--Gift from Babe Ruth! Together with the mighty Iron Horse, Tony Lazzeri guarded the right side of the Bronx infield for a dozen seasons, enjoying four American League pennants and two World Championships during that term of service. Presented is an exceptionally rare fielder's glove used on the diamond by the Hall of Fame second baseman during the latter half of his Yankees service.

A notarized letter of provenance is supplied by the son of the gentleman who kept part time jobs at a couple of Broadway apartment buildings, one of which, the Ansonia, holding the residence of the great Babe Ruth. After assisting a boisterously intoxicated Bambino to his quarters one evening, the young man watched as the iconic slugger dug into his pocket for a tip. Coming up empty, Ruth turned his attention to a duffel bag in the entry way, asking, "Do ya play ball, kid? Take this--I swiped it from the Dago."

The professional model "Reach" fielder's mitt exhibits solid wear from the Italian-American superstar, with occasionally loosening of the stitching at the junctures of the fingers. Secondary owner's name appears in vintage fountain pen ink at interior wrist strap. A rare opportunity to own an important relic from the Yankees' most glorious era, with provenance to a pair of its earliest legends. LOA from Joe Phillips.
