Description

Circa 1998 Mike Piazza Game Worn New York Mets Catcher's Gear. Mike Piazza set the standard for offensive excellence at baseball's most grueling position. His home run total accounts for the most hit by any catcher. The dependable backstop helped transform the Mets into winners when he arrived in 1998. Presented for bidder consideration is Piazza's catching ensemble from his early days in the Big Apple. The chest protector, catcher's mask and shin guards show appropriate wear. The mask has a special Rawlings plastic visor to combat the sun and shows sweat staining on the inner half. Piazza's chest protector features a Velcro swatch on the inside which could attach to additional equipment. Both shin guards show heavy wear from extended use. Each piece is signed. The autographs on the shin guards are reduced from saturation while the other two autographs rate 7/10 to 8/10. We have uncovered multiple of photos of Piazza wearing this exact style of gear in 1998 on Getty Images. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
