A gift from the Hall of Fame southpaw to Dodgers teammate Carl Furillo

Circa 1958 Sandy Koufax Game Used Fielder's Glove. It's just the second Koufax glove we've had the good fortune to offer here at Heritage, the first having commanded $107,550 nearly five years ago in our April 2009 Signature Auction. Like the previously offered representation, the provided model is blessed with rock-solid provenance, though this model is arguably the more desirable of the pair for its unaltered condition and its temporal positioning directly on the dividing line between Brooklyn and Los Angeles. The fine wear suggests multiple seasons of action, so its entirely possible that both Ebbets Field and the Coliseum share in the glove's history.

The glove was recently sourced from the family of veteran Dodgers outfielder Carl Furillo, with an August 22, 2013 letter of provenance signed by his son that reads,

"I, Carl Furillo, am the son of Brooklyn Dodgers great Carl Furillo. My father played from 1946 through 1960 all with the Dodgers. He was part of 2 All Star Games and 2 World Series Championships. My father played with Sandy Koufax for 5 seasons and was even a roommate of his for a while. This Herb Score model glove was given to my father by Sandy Koufax during their time as teammates."

A letter of examination from Denny Esken, widely considered the hobby's top expert in the field of game used gloves, is dated September 3, 2013:

"This fabulous glove was once worn by legendary Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax. It is a Rawlings HSP Herb Score endorsed glove. It is a 'Heart of the Hide' model. Correct in all aspects, this exceptional glove remains in original condition with original lacing all intact just as the days that Sandy sported it on the mound. This gem glove measures 11 3/4" and has a solid web. The Rawlings label is worn and appears to have been replaced. There is some pine tar on the pinky finger of the glove. The lining remains smooth. All features are correct to Sandy Koufax. In conclusion, after full inspection and research I find this Sandy Koufax glove to be in its original condition and authentic."

Finally, we have a copy of a photograph picturing a youthful legend on the rise wearing a glove that matches the offered specimen in every detail. The glove is, in short, one of the most thoroughly documented examples we have encountered, a relic worthy of display at Cooperstown or in a place of honor in the finest of private collections. Letter of provenance from Carl Furillo, Jr. LOA from Denny Esken.
