Description

Circa 1940 Joe Kelley Handwritten & Signed Biographical Index Card, PSA/DNA Mint 9. You can blame his intense rarity on the 111 years since his last at-bat, the seventy-six years since his passing, and his long-overdue 1971 Hall of Fame induction coming decades after his death. Today Kelley provides one of the widest chasms between supply and demand, as every Cooperstown collector wants him but almost nobody has him. This lot will not only serve to fill one of those empty spaces in one advanced collector's trophy room, but to do so with unimaginable style.

We can thank an unknown early collector who was years ahead of his time in requesting that Kelley provide a short handwritten autobiography for posterity. Kelley's 9/10 black fountain pen ink fills the lined side of a 3x5" index card:

"Joseph J. Kelley, Born 1871 Cambridge Mass. Played Lowell New England League, Boston National 1891 Omaha, Pittsburg, Baltimore, 1892 With Baltimore Pennant Winners 1894-95-96- Went to Brookly (sic) 1899 Won Pennant 99-1900 Cincinnati 1902-3-4-5-6 Boston Nationals 1908 -Toronto."

The card exhibits no flaws of note, and is encapsulated for protection and unquestioned authenticity within a PSA/DNA Mint 9 slab. A miracle find for the uncompromising hobbyist. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Mint 9.
