Circa 1920 Reach Sporting Goods Sign. This iconic brand is inexorably linked with National Pastime, as Reach produced so many of the balls and equipment used in the 19th Century and early 20th Century game. This stunning two-sided, diecut, heavy base metal sign once hung outside a Reach branch store, probably in one of the bustling baseball markets, when gods like Cobb, Johnson, Ruth, Hornsby, and Gehrig ruled the diamond.

"'Reach' Sporting Goods" appears in red and white on green next to huge diecut baseball with the familiar layout of "Official American League Ball" between red and blue stitching. Above is the Reach trademark with the 1909 design patent date, while below "A.J. Reach Co., Sole Makers, Philadelphia" with a separate 1909 patent date.

The condition of the sign is incredible when you consider its one-hundred-year vintage. And what wear it does exhibits - some light scratches, discoloration, and rust - actually enhances the overall appearance of the piece and is most noticeable on the portion which was affixed to the wall, with the text and graphics surviving in a wonderful state. Measures to approximately 18x13".
