Circa 1920 Forbes Field Oversized Trolley Car Sign.
Commanding display piece will add heft, both figuratively and literally, to any Pittsburgh-related sports collection. Measuring 45x14x4" in size and weighing approximately sixty-four pounds (64 lbs.), this black metal and canvas roller display signaled the various stops on the Steel City trolley line, most notably the home field of the Pirates and, starting in 1933, the Steelers as well. The vintage would suggest the sign was in active duty when Murderer's Row came to town to battle the Waner boys in the 1927 World Series. The ancient relic exhibits the wear one would expect for years of public service, but it's a beautiful and evocative piece without any distractions of significance.
