Description

Circa 1910 Ernest Barnard Signed Cabinet Photograph by Carl Horner. The masterful portraiture of this early cabinet photograph would be unmistakably recognizable as the work of Carl Horner, even if this fact wasn't verified by his mark at lower left. For the uninitiated, Horner rates as baseball's most collectible turn-of-the-century lensman, and the force behind many of the images found on tobacco and candy cards of the era, most notably Honus Wagner's portrait on the million-dollar T206 issue. This skillful study features the second president of the American League Ernest Barnard, who was serving as vice president of the Cleveland Indians at the time he sat for Horner's camera.

The photo and mount survive in stunning NRMT condition, enhanced by an autograph and notation, "E.S. Barnard, Vice President Cleveland Club," orchestrated in the subject's 9/10 vintage pencil on reverse. Dimensions of mount 6.25x9".
