    Description

Circa 1905 Adrian "Cap" Anson Signed Typed Letter with Initialed Handwritten Note, PSA/DNA NM-MT 8. Born in a log cabin in Iowa, "The Marshalltown Infant" made his professional baseball debut at the age of nineteen in 1871, the first year of organized professional ball. Adrian "Cap" Anson quickly became the strongest and most dominant baseball player of the nineteenth century. He is still the Cubs all-time hit and runs batted in leader, despite having retired 120 years ago. The last page of a typed letter from the Hall of Famer dates from his one term as City Clerk of Chicago.

Official letterhead has "City Clerk's Office, Adrian C. Anson, City Clerk" beautifully scripted in an ornate font on the masthead along with the entity's official seal. Probably written to his daughter, the typed content refers to an estate settlement and is signed "A.C. Anson." Below, in Anson's own hand, he inquires about the status of collections necessary to close an account and then signs his initials, "ACA." The letter has an ink spot and customary folds. Anson's signature, initials and handwriting all appear in NRMT black fountain pen. Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, NM-MT 8.
