Circa 1876 Hartford Dark Blues Glass Lantern Slide. Extraordinary glass lantern slide finds the charter member of the National League posed in front of Hartford's "United States Hotel," which served as a residence for several members of the Dark Blues team. While the image is a bit too small to make any definitive identifications, we spot at least one gentleman who bears a strong resemblance to curveball innovator Candy Cummings, who served the Dark Blues cause in 1875-76. A yellow stain impedes upon the upper right corner of the 3.25x4" plate and various imperfections appear in the image area. But it's a marvelous and very early study of one of the most important clubs of early professional baseball history, and thus such concerns must be taken in their proper context.
