Baseball in Japan has a rich history with the most notable tour being the All-Star tour of 1934. During this 1934 series, a team of Japan's finest players, were outplayed in all 18 of their games against Major League All-Stars. However, in one of the contests, pitcher Eiji Sawamura gained status as a national hero and baseball legend by striking out Hall of Famers Charlie Gehringer , Babe Ruth , Lou Gehrig , and Jimmie Foxx in order in a 1-0 loss. The pins in this lot consist of the 1958 Cardinals tour featuring enameled Cardinal perched on bat with "1958 Japan" lettered below. Marked Balfour on back. Light wear: NMT/MT, 1960 San Francisco Giants Good Will Tour Balfour stamping on back NMT/ MT, 1962 Detroit Tigers, with Balfour on reverse missing clasp. NMT/MT, 1971 Baltimore Orioles Balfour on back, with a tie clasp backing NMT, 1978 Reds, no stamping on reverse, missing clasp NMT ,1984 Baltimore Orioles No stamping, missing clasp, NMT.
