Description

2024 Ty Cobb 1948 Leaf Style Original Painting. The 1948 Leaf baseball card set is one of the most popular and historically significant sets in the hobby, largely because it was the first post-World War II set to feature color printing and is considered the first major issue of the modern era. It includes just 98 cards (though it was originally planned as a 168-card set), but features a remarkable concentration of star players and rookies, including Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, Stan Musial, and Babe Ruth. The set's bold, colorful design and scarcity-particularly with short prints-have made it highly coveted among collectors. The Jackie Robinson rookie card, in particular, is one of the most iconic and valuable cards in the hobby. The 1948 Leaf set remains a cornerstone of vintage card collecting and a key link between the pre-war and modern baseball eras.

Offered is an original canvas painting of what a Ty Cobb green variation would have looked like in that iconic set. On the back of the 18x22" frame is inscribed "A Baseball Card That Never Was: Ty Cobb (1948 Leaf)" and a signature from the artist Arthur Miller. Minor wear on the frame.
