Description

2006 Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award from The Brooks Robinson Collection. Bragan was famously one of the 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers from the Deep South who signed a petition opposing the signing of Jackie Robinson, but quickly relented, explaining that he had seen "the quality of Jackie the man and the player." When he attended the funeral of general manager Branch Rickey, he said he decided to attend because "Branch Rickey made me a better man."

For the rest of his life, Bragan tried to repay that favor, as both a Major and minor league manager, and as head of his eponymous philanthropic organization to support the youth of America. This award was presented to a fellow warrior in that noble cause. Heavy bronze sculpture/award measures thirteen inches (13") in height. Letter of provenance from Brooks Robinson.
