2003 Derek Jeter Game Used & Signed Fielder's Glove with Jeter Letter, PSA/DNA Authentic. The 2003 season had begun terribly, as Jeter dislocated his left shoulder in a third base collision with Toronto Blue Jays catcher Ken Huckaby on Opening Day, knocking him out of action for six weeks. It would be the first time the 1996 Rookie of the Year had been placed upon the DL. But soon after his return, team owner George Steinbrenner declared his superstar shortstop the captain of the New York Yankees, the first man to hold the honor since Don Mattingly had retired with it in 1995, and the start of a twelve-year reign that would end with his own retirement in 2014.

It was a responsibility that Jeter immediately took to heart, leading his pinstriped brothers back to the Championship of the American League for the sixth time in his young career. Though the Yanks would fall to the Florida Marlins in the World Series, the declaration of Jeter's captaincy instills all gear from the 2003 season with elite significance.

Certainly the same could be said of any glove worn in the field by Jeter, the rarest of all game used gear. The experts at PSA/DNA rave over this specimen in their lengthy letter of authenticity, which we excerpt below:

"To date we have authenticated 6 professional gloves of Derek Jeter. Of the 6, this is the finest one we've seen. The glove possesses what we consider to be perfect Jeter characteristics. The most prominent is the bend on the back of the fingers which is caused by a habit of Jeter's while on the field. In between pitches he presses the fingers on the glove with his throwing hand just before the pitch is thrown. As you place your hand in the glove you immediately notice the bend to the fingers. Judging by the overall use and the softening of the leather, it is our opinion this glove was game used by Jeter for the length of the 2003 season."

The "Rawlings PRO-DJ2" glove is indeed suede-soft from heavy use, the white embroidered "Derek Jeter" on the exterior thumb slightly darkened from sweat and infield clay. Interior wrist strap is stamped "TP 01-02," denoting production in January of 2002. The back of the middle finger is autographed in 9/10 silver sharpie, with the notation below reading, "2003 Game Used." A personally signed letter of provenance from Jeter on Steiner letterhead further confirms validity. Heritage has had the privilege of offering only two game used Derek Jeter fielder's gloves in our history, and both appear within this Yankee Legends auction. LOA from PSA/DNA, Authentic. Letter of provenance from Derek Jeter/Steiner. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
