Description

2002 Anaheim Angels World Series Championship Ring Presented to "Rally Monkey" Creator. Whether it's love or World Championships, there's nothing quite like the first time, so this ring is downright heavenly to Angels fans who suffered for decades in the smug shadow of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 2002 World Series was a tense battle, with four of the seven games decided by a single run, and the Angels battling back from five runs down in the seventh inning of Game Six to score six unanswered runs in the closing frames to stave off elimination. They'd close it out the next day in front of 44,598 at a joyous Edison Field.

Here is the gold at the end of that rainbow, the ring presented to Anaheim Angels production manager Robert Castillo. While it might not be a name with which you are familiar, his claim to fame most certainly is--Castillo is credited with inventing the "rally monkey." It was he who printed up a sign reading "Rally Time!!!" and then filmed a capuchin monkey dancing around excitedly with the sign in its grasp, hoping the energetic primate would inspire Anaheim fans to get loud.

Real diamonds and rubies coat the massive ring face, forming the team logo "A" against a shimmering backdrop. "World Champions" stands at top and bottom in raised text. Left shank holds a miniature enameled Major League Baseball logo amidst text reading, "Castillo, 2002 World Series, 99-63." Left shank pictures the caps of the Angels and vanquished San Francisco Giants beneath an image of Edison Field and the World Series trophy. A banner reading "Angels 1st Championship" flies above. Interior band is stamped, "Intergold 10K" and measures to size eleven and a half. The ring is presented in original cherry wood and glass hinged display case. Pristine condition. Letter of provenance from Robert Castillo.

I received the catalog and was very impressed with its color illustrations, descriptions and attractive layout. (It has better production values than the New York houses.)
