2000 Ted Williams Signed American Flag - Made Infamous After Boston Globe Column.

UPDATE: This lot will be accompanied by a full LOA from PSA/DNA for the autograph.

According to a Boston Globe column written by famed writer Will McDonough in 2000: For the bad, under the heading "How Low Can You Go." This item was sold at auction last night for $3,050. There we 28 bids ... Somehow, I don't think Ted Williams, a former Marine pilot, would have signed his name on a flag if he had known that US Code Title 36, Section 176, paragraph (g) reads: "The flag should never have placed upon it, nor any part of it, nor attached to it, any mark, insignia, word, figure, picture, or drawing of any nature" ... Maybe John Henry and the Texas Con Man should hook up. They're two of a kind. You never get a straight pitch.

It appears McDonough felt Williams' son put him up to signing it. Nevertheless, the offered flag flew at The Splendid Splinter's Florida home in 2000, and Williams penned a bold signature on one of the stripes. Measuring at 10x15', it exhibits medium wear and tear throughout. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
