2000's Bob Gibson Original Artwork by Bill Purdom. Bob Gibson needed to win. All the time. And he wasn't known for sugar-coating anything (even with his teammates), once telling his catcher who walked out to the mound, "The only thing you know about pitching is that it's hard to hit." This intensity was also reflected in his pitching mechanics. During the course of his delivery, Gibson would explode towards the plate, causing the right side of his body to hurtle violently towards first base on his follow through.

That image of Bob Gibson is exactly what artist Bill Purdom has captured here in acrylic on paper- Gibson has just released the ball, his eyes still glued to the plate, his body falling to first base, and his entire body weight balanced on his left toes, giving the illusion that he is almost floating in air. Bold colors against a blurred out crowd and bunting in the background serve to make Gibson almost pop out from this superb artwork. Signed at bottom, "W. Purdom." Matted and framed 25.5x20", artwork is 16x10.5".
