1999 Willie McCovey "Major League Baseball All-Century Team" Award & Placeholder from The Willie McCovey Collection. In 1999, Major League Baseball named its All-Century Team. The nominees were presented at the 1999 All-Star Game at Fenway Park in Boston and the final team was reveled prior to Game Two of the 1999 World Series at Turner Field in Atlanta. Every living player named to the team attended the event in Atlanta and was presented with a special awards. Willie Mac's is offered here.Glass and marble award is laser inscribed "Major League Baseball 100 Top Players of the Century, Willie McCovey" along with a likeness of Stretch. One corner is damaged but the treasure still displays admirably.
This lot also includes the "Major League Baseball All-Century Players, Willie McCovey" weighted placeholder from the nomination ceremony in Boston. Every one of the players nominated had one of these with their name on it to stand next to during the on-field ceremony. Exhibits wear. Letter of provenance from Willie McCovey's widow.
