Description
1997 Tony Gwynn Silver Bat Award. Thirteen years after he won his first, this Hall of Famer and most beloved Padre of them all won his final batting title, recording 220 hits to soar to a .372 average, each a National League best. Not even Ty Cobb ruled his league over such a wide expanse of time, and Gwynn remains the only Major Leaguer in the top twenty for career batting average who never played a single game before the start of the Second World War.This sleek silver beauty is a duplicate model personally ordered by Gwynn for display, identical to the lumber with which he assured his own immortality but for the materials used and the "Batting Champion 1997, National League, B.A. .372" engraved text. Even the rather short length of the bat--thirty-three and a half inches (33.5")--is consistent with Gwynn gamers.
The bat has light age/storage wear near the top of the barrel and scratches below the engravings.
