    Description

1989 Oakland Athletics World Series Championship Trophy. The victor's prize for a Fall Classic that is immortalized in baseball history as "The Earthquake Series" for the Loma Prieta earthquake that struck just prior to the start of the third game, necessitating a ten-day delay in the contest. This instantly recognizable symbol of the sport's greatest achievement was presented to a worker in the Athletics' front office as the Bash Brothers thundered their way to a four-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants.

The classic design, among the most aesthetically appealing of all Championship hardware in any sport, boasts baseball and crown imagery at the center of a ring of engraved pennants, each bearing the name of the twenty-six teams comprising the 1989 Major Leagues. The tallest flag reaches twelve inches (12") at its peak. Encircling the base is a brass belt with the engraved text, "World Series Champions, Oakland Athletics, 1989, Sally Lorette." General handling and storage wear is apparent, but the overall aesthetics remain strong.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
