1988 Sid Mercer Player of the Year Award Presented to Jose Canseco. Named for a popular journalist for the New York Evening Globe, The Sid Mercer Player of the Year Award was presented to the man who would become the most visible figure in the modern steroid scandal, ensuring Canseco's immortality in baseball history books. We expect one day this piece will be all the more valuable for the hulking slugger's infamy. The plaque reads "The Sid Mercer Memorial Award, Player of the Year to Jose Canseco For His Outstanding Achievements and Rich Contributions to Baseball, Presented by the New York Chapter Baseball Writers Association of America 1988." General handling wear but the piece still presents very well. Dimensions approximately 11x13.5".
