    Description

1988 Lou Gehrig Bronze Statue. Masterful creation by sculptor R.P. Daus is the most attractive work honoring the Iron Horse that we've encountered to date. From the pinstripes of his Yankees uniform to the laces on his shoes, no detail is missed--even the proper Hillerich & Bradsby trademark appears on the bat in Gehrig's hands. Joining the artist's signature on the base are the words, "Henry Louis Gehrig" and "The Sporting News," the latter due to its initial appearance with a $2000 price tag in the periodical's pages in 1988. It's also worthy of note that the source image derives from a Charles Conlon glass negative in the publication's archives. Including the marble slab of the base, the sculpture stands at fifteen inches in height. A truly elegant piece for the sophisticated collector. Pinstripes are incorporated into the base which adds a dose of aesthetics. Weight is twenty-seven pounds.
